Review: Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Some skincare products are flashy: they’ve got superstar packaging, beautiful scents, or pricey ingredients. Then there are the products that you love, but are sort of boring-looking and unassuming. The latter describes the Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence, and is in part why it has taken me so long to get around to writing this review of *spoiler* one of my favorite skincare products. So, I was really pleased when a few people asked for a review it on my last review poll!

How overdue is this review? Well, I’m currently close to finishing my third bottle, with two more ready to go in my stash. This product has been, and will continue to be, a staple in my routine. And if you’ve been around the Asian beauty community even for short amount of time, you probably know that I’m not alone in loving this essence.

So, now that the ending isn’t a surprise, read on to find out why I love this bottle of snail goo so much.

Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence

Cosdna analysis

Snaily snail snails

Like most Cosrx packaging, the Advanced Snail Essence bottle is a minimalistic plastic bottle with a pump top. The pump works great, and I don’t even have issues with getting everything out of the bottom of the bottle.

The Claims

“Made with all-natural domestic 96% snail secretion filtrate, the Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is a Real Power Essence that transform the skin while keeping in the moisture and encouraging the real power of skin in a healthy way. It replenishes nutrients to the skin to prevent and repair damages and fills the skin with elasticity for a healthier, younger looking skin.” (

Snail Secretion Filtrate, Betaine, Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Arginine, Allantoin, Ethyl Hexanediol, Sodium Polyacrylate, Carbomer, Phenoxyethanol

  • Snail Secretion Filtrate: Snail goo is an incredible product that can help heal dry skin, repair damaged skin, heal pimples, etc. See my ode to snail mucin here.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate: the version of hyaluronic acid that has smaller molecules that allows it to absorb into the skin more easily; hyaluronic acid is a humectant that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
  • Arginine: an antioxidant that is good for repairing skin
  • Allantoin: helps to soothe and soften skin, as well as promotes skin regeneration

Basically, this is a bottle of snail mucin with just a few other helpful ingredients to boost its efficacy. While the snail mucin is definitely the star of the show in this minimal ingredient list, the other ingredients combine to make this a standout product.

Have you picked up on the fact that I love this essence?

The (Personal) Evidence

The Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is a clear, scentless liquid that is very viscous…and stringy.

I swear it’s not gross. I swear.

I know the consistency can turn people off, but I love it. The essence spreads easily and absorbs quickly. There’s slight tackiness at first, but that goes away as soon as you apply another product.

This essence is hydrating, but I definitely don’t use this because of its hydrating properties. Instead, the essence is excellent for softening, soothing, and calming my skin. After the first several months of use, I definitely noticed a difference in the texture of my skin: it became softer and smoother. The essence also helped to lessen the seeming constant redness in my cheeks. I use two pumps of this morning and night.

Snail mucin is my go-to for a product that soothes and calms, even more than aloe vera. (That’s partly why I always bring a decant of it when I travel.) For example, when I had a bad reaction to some face wipes–my skin became very red and irritated–I slathered on layers of snail and it helped to soothe and lessen the redness. I’ve also been known to put this on burns (I’m clumsy and a bad cook), and it helps!

In the winter, I used to get rough, dry, flaky patches on my cheeks. No amount of slathering on lotions could get them to go away. Since I began using the Advanced Snail Essence, I haven’t had them come back.

Additionally, I like this essence because it works as a great carrier for other products. I first got the idea from the great Fiddy Snails, who mentioned that she added a few drops of a propolis serum to her Advanced Snail Essence. While I’ve now taken to adding drops of a honey serum to mine as well, especially given how great honey and snail are together, I have also added other serums to great success. The Advanced Snail Essence is thin, but the consistency is perfect for mixing with thicker serums or serums that are tackier when applied on their own. Mixing skincare products is also a nice way to save time in your routine.

One thing to note: people with dust mite allergies have also been found to have snail mucin allergies, so definitely patch test if you have a dust mite allergy!

So, will I buy this product again?

Rating Scale:

  • Did you not read the review? Yes, of course. I will spend all of my money on this product!
  • Yes. I enjoy this product enough to purchase again in the future, especially if it’s on sale.
  • Meh. Maybe. I mean, I bet there are other, better things out there. I’d use it if someone gave it to me.
  • No. I won’t use this again and will probably bad-mouth it to others.
  • Hahahahaha. Nope. Noooooooope. Not even if you paid me.

The Verdict: Did you not read the review? Yes, of course. I will spend all of my money on this product!

Luckily, this Holy Grail product is quite cheap! (Don’t shell out the $20+ dollars for it at places like Ulta or SoKo Glam. This Asian Beauty favorite can be found much cheaper in many other places!)
